Aggie's Gruyère

Gastrostop #1: Restaurant Abri des Marches

Gastrostop #1: Restaurant Abri des Marches

I love food like most of the people. I eat everything, you serve me something I will eat it. I learnt to eat good, I learnt more tastes thanks to my chef boyfriend. Now I see a difference between good, better, the best and food that shouldn’t be paid for when in restaurant. They sometimes should give it for free, seriously or just change their career..but about that some other time.

We were both happy to discover Restaurant Abri des Marches in Broc, where we live. Better late than never.  The menu is varied, not too long, has a bit of everything for everyone. First we just went there for some ‘aperitif’, ended up sitting with the bottle of wine on the terrace the whole night and ordered cold meat and cheese platter. Incredible quality of all the ingredients, amazing dish to sit and relax, eat something instead of chips or peanuts (by the way: very popular in Switzerland). The terrace blew our mind. We’ve been on nice terraces before but this one is in the village, away from all the noise, next to a forest and with a view. Not just any view! Gruyères Castle itself!

We decided to go back. Not long after we called to reserve. Paella time! (You need to reserve before, minimum two people.) I ate paellas in Spain, Portugal and also in some places in Switzerland. This paella….yum. Before you get a mixed salad with lentils and quinoa as well, which is a nice change to a ‘normal’ mixed salad. After that the chef comes with a big pan and serves you your rice amazingness full of different kind of seafood, meat, veggies. Cooked to the perfection.  And if that’s not good enough then…well there’s also a second serving. If you want to go there for paella go very hungry, portions are enormous. 38 Swiss francs per person might seem like a lot, but it is a normal price and honestly for what you get you would be stupid to say it’s expensive.

And then we came back again. This time for beef steak tartare. Served with a mixed salad as well. My boyfriend makes the best tartare in the world (my world) but after eating in Abri des Marches we both agreed they’re on the same level.

All in all. We will come back for sure. Need to try more dishes.
