As it is with all the hikes there’s a few variations of the way. If you want to have an easy day, you can take a lift up to Sunnegga and then walk direction Tuftern (easy, flat hike, max 30 minutes) and then continue on with Europahütteweg. Or… you can start from Zermatt through Ried, Tuftern and then all the way to Täschalp, down to Täsch, take a train back to Zermatt or come back by Bahnweg (that is quite a long day then but very very worth of giving it a try!).
It is an easy ( a bit long though) and very picturesque hike so do not forget your camera! It is one of my favourites, so give it a try.
Practical information:
Starting point: Zermatt (1680 m), Tufteren (2215)
Target: Täschalp (2214 m), Täsch (1450 m)
Hike lenght: 6 km from Tuftern till Täschalp
Tip: Try to start early in Zermatt and enjoy your whole day hiking. Stop in Tuftern for a coffee or a snack (amazing Matterhorn view).
