Nax is a little village on 1300 m with about 500 habitants in the canton of Valais. With its pretty wooden, stone houses it hasn’t lost its charm.

Skiing in Nax

Nax is quite a small ski resort with 5 installations and no worries you won’t get lost. To get to the ski lift the easiest way is to take a car or a bus. We took a car since we didn’t feel like waiting for the bus.
4 out of 5 installations are chairlifts, one is a T-Bar. Slopes are not long but perfectly prepared (when we went skiing, there wasn’t much snow but still I couldn’t ask for better slope conditions). The slopes are wide and honestly it is a superb family ski resort. If you’re thinking of taking your kids with you and teaching them how to ski it’s hard to find a better spot. Peace, not many people around (seriously, we went during the weekend and most of the people we saw was in restaurants), no crazy after ski parties, just a few restaurants in the village. Tranquility at its best.

Where to eat
On the slopes you have 2 restaurants: Restaurant ‘La Dzorniva’ at 1900 m when getting off the first chairlift. It offers daily menu, Swiss specialities like fondue, rösti, croûte au fromage and other dishes like sausage with chips etc. Fair price for a ski resort restaurant. Buvette du ‘Chiesso’ at 2075 m, that used to be a cheese dairy. It’s a charming little place with a small menu and good mulled wine.

In the village we ate ‘charbonoble’ in Hotel Mont-Noble . Salad, 2 different kinds of meat, merguez, chips, vegetables and 4 different yummie sauces. You grill it how you want it and enjoy your dinner with the closest. Perfect choice for an easy evening. There’s also a pizzeria-trattoria Le Central not far away if you’re looking for some Italian cuisine. And don’t forget to try the ‘Mont-Noble’ beer from their village brewery!
What to do
As written before Nax is a tiny village but there’s something for all. If you’re not feeling like going skiing, there’s also winter walks, cross-country ski trails, ice-rink and you can have a go at snowtubing. Walk around the village because it is pretty as hell. Go to the panorama point and just enjoy the peace of this place.
