International Hot Air Balloon Festival in Château-d’Oex in canton Vaud has quite a long history. Created in 1979 each and every January attracts thousands of tourists that are happy to keep their heads up and admire a view of around hundred hot air balloons flying in beautiful surrounding in Vaudois Alps. It is also here where Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones started their Breitling Orbiter world tour in 1999.
From 26th of January until 3rd of February Château-d’Oex will be filled with pilots from around twenty different countries. There’s displays, music, hot air balloon museum, Wednesday afternoon is dedicated to the little ones, you can make yourself a little gift and hop on on one of the balloons and enjoy the winter view of Vaudois Alps from a bit higher. Bertrand Piccard and Brian Jones will host a conference on 26th of January as well. 1st of February is a special evening when at 18.58 the Night Glow starts. Spectactle of light, music, balloons and paragliders. Not to be missed. I will be there for sure. In the end who doesn’t like balloons and doesn’t want to live in a fairytale for even just few minutes?
